Goals and Habitsclear glass with red sand grainer

In my quest to develop habits, I realized this very important lesson. If I read a good book every day, time is my friend because my knowledge builds in a positive direction. Time passing becomes a good thing.

If I decide not to exercise consistently, time works against me, and my progress from the gym begins to fade. Time passing becomes a bad thing.

You know that expression, “time flies”?

Before you know it, we’ve been in a pandemic for 2 and a half years. Before you know it, 2022 is 75% complete.

Now flip that “time flies” concept on its head in a positive way. Imagine doing one, seemingly insignificant good habit each day. You may not think that 30 days or a year will go by quickly, but it does.

Read 10 pages of a good book per day for 1 year? That’s 3,650 pages. Practice an instrument 30 minutes a day for 1 year? That’s 183 hours of practice.

Consistency matters more than intensity.

In the book titled “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson, he phrases this concept as “Easy to do, easy not to do.” The small decisions every day aren’t small. They matter a lot more than most people think.
